Meet the team of hard-working and friendly faces behind Unique Contrax and learn a bit about our history
David brings twenty-seven years of business, building, training and development experience to the organisation. A carpenter and joiner by trade, his early career saw him specialise in the heritage and restoration sector with many prestigious refurbishment and fit-out projects to his name. Listed and protected buildings are a particular passion but his commitment to bespoke joinery and quality materials can be found in public buildings, hospitals, healthcare, retail, hotels, leisure and community venues.
David progressed to senior leadership roles for the training and development of staff and school leavers – many thousand careers have been influenced and supported by him and nothing gives him more pleasure than seeing a students’ name on the side of a van many years later. His natural flair for patience and calm communication is not just essential for the development agenda, but it’s a particular asset for residential clients who may be making a life-changing commitment and feel understandable anxiety.
David and Richard are the creative force behind the early scoping of new projects. As work commences, Richard tends to control the site and client experience and David drives the project management, quality control and essential support functions.
Richard founded the company with David over twenty years ago. He brings a wealth of business, building and technical expertise to satisfy the needs of public- and private-sector construction projects.
As with all the team, Richard’s career began ‘on the tools’ and he worked his way up to senior operational roles responsible for health and safety, project management and financial control for many of the well-known names in the region.
Richard will typically be found onsite, driving the team, communication and client relationships. His history of major refurbishment, commercial contracts, residential, and new builds creates a sense of confidence for the team and our clients – things rarely surprise him.
He sets the highest standards for his project teams and, through regular visits and reporting structures, ensures that these standards are achieved. Richard is a collaborative leader, acknowledging the role of each team member and the expertise of clients and subcontractors. Clients and design teams welcome his pragmatism and practical ‘can do’ attitude.
As Contracts and Office Manager, Ian is the glue that holds everything together. A skilled bench joiner, he has over thirty-six years of building and technical experience, he also leads the digital strategy for the business and embraces new technology. Tools that facilitate communication and project control are particularly vital in the modern construction world.
Ian and Dave both worked in the heritage sector but David found his particular niche in the civil engineering field and acted as Site Manager, Foreman and Contracts Manager – where his love for attention to detail was born. His grasp of health and safety and other legislation is legendary.
A family man, Ian fosters an entrepreneurial spirit in his children and supports their new business ventures – many that require the services of Unique Contrax. He acquired these people skills whilst also working in the education and training arena with David.
He has demonstrated an outstanding ability to deliver projects on time, within budget, safely and to client requirements, whilst inspiring a multidisciplinary team that must always think, and act flexibly.
Beth is the friendly face that defines the values of customer service that underpin Unique Contrax. As a key point of contact for every customer and supplier, brightening people’s days come second nature to her. After university, Beth’s career began in the financial services sector and she now supports Ian in all things office management, procurement and cost control.
Before joining her father at Unique (the surname Hodge is no coincidence), successful financial services roles led to positions in the visitor economy and health and leisure sector, where she honed her customer service and project management skills. She is the oracle for anything clients may need support with – if she can’t resolve any issues there and then, she finds the people who can.
